Free pet tracking - combine ByteTag and Apple AirTag
Dog tracking without a monthly subscriptions and maintenance hassle.
Being a dog owner is more than just owning a pet. If you have a dog, then you know it’s your furry companion, your family member. Ensuring their safety is important to every dog owner.
Since a lot of dog GPS trackers can be quite pricey, we’ll delve into cheaper, but yet effective and popular devices that can enhance your dog’s safety - ByteTag and the Apple AirTag.
Haven’t heard of ByteTag?
If you haven’t heard of ByteTag yet, then it is a modern and well designed pet identification tag. It has a QR-code technology, to share your dog’s general info and details, when needed.
Apple AirTag overview
Now, most likely this small tech device dos not need a long into - the Apple AirTag. A small coin-like device that comes in handy, when you need to keep track of your personal items, like your bag, wallet or keys.
But, by attaching it your dog’s collar, you can take it up a notch and track your lost dog with it - pretty amazing, right.
Now, you do need to keep in mind a few things, if you are planning to use it to track your dog. Here’s a link to our AirTag review as a dog tracker blog. Feel free to also watch our Youtube video review about the Apple AirTag. From the blog and the video you’ll find more detailed info about it if you’re thinking of committing to it.
How they complement each other
While both, the ByteTag and the Apple Airtag, have their strengths and weaknesses, then by combining them together, as a team they can offer a bit more solid tracking for your dog.
Real-time tracking with AirTag: if your dog happens to run away, the Apple AirTag can provide location updates in real-time, which will guide you towards your dog’s current location.
Immediate information access with ByteTag: when someone happens to find your dog, they can easily scan the QR-code and access your contacts and how to take care of your dog until you come by.
What’s similar and what’s different?
Despite the fact that these two devices can be a less costly option for dog tracking, let’s also have a look at a few other similarities and differences between ByteTag and Apple AirTag.
Battery and maintenance: ByteTag doesn’t require any batteries or charging whatsoever. It means that it means no maintenance once you’ve bought it. AirTag however, needs a battery to keep working. But it lasts about a year or so and once the battery is empty, you can quite easily replace it.
Purpose: ByteTag is specifically designed for dogs - to identify lost pet and share information. Apple AirTag is created to find lost personal belongings.
Connectivity: ByteTag keeps working until the QR-code is scannable and doesn’t rely on external networks. AirTag however does need a presence of another Apple device to be able to share location info.
Final thoughts
Over the years we have tested quite a few dog tech items, including different types of dog trackers. But we must say, that to this day, we have the ByteTag and an Apple AirTag attached to our dog’s collar.
At the end of the day, having a dog shouldn’t mean that you most definitely need the fanciest dog trackers, most expensive food etc.
But if you do want to keep your dog safe and ensure, that you reunite even if your does dog gets lost, then give these two items a try.
By combining the strengths of ByteTag and Apple AirTag, you can create a good system that not only helps you to locate your dog, but also provides essential info to the person, who finds your lost dog.
