Inhalation narcosis vs IV anhestesia

We recently had to go to the vet for an operation.

We had to remove two teeth from our Husky, to prevent a random bacteria from entering the bloodstream and causing death.

We were surprised to find that inhalation costed almost twice, versus what it would coat with a needle.

Which one is better?

Price-wise, the needle seems to be better.

If you're low on cash, there's nothing wrong with choosing it.

Inhalation in comparison is more costly, but you're also getting more for your money.

Inhalation is safer for dogs.

With an IV, the chemicals are sent into the bloodstream and then it takes some time for it to work.

With an IV, the chemicals are sent into the bloodstream and then it takes some time for it to work.

It's harder and slower to control the level of narcosis with a needle.

With inhalation, it's easier and faster to control the level, and therefor the operation is also safer.

After the operation

With an IV, the dog is going to be drowsy for a while. It takes longer for the chemicals to be processed out of the blood.

With inhalation, dogs almost wake up like they would from normally, from a nap.

Dogs almost don't even understand that anything happened with inhalation.

But with IV, after the operation, dogs also have a hard time controlling their body temperature.

They get cold easily and basically need the rest of the day to recover and stay warm at home.

Which one should you choose?

If you don't have to worry about money, choose inhalation.

If you don't have time to nurture your dog after the operation, choose inhalation.

If you don't have to worry about money, choose inhalation.

If you don't have that much money, choosing the needle is still not a bad choice.

What's important at the end of the day is still, that the operation gets done.

We have, sadly, had too many operations, so we can confirm these things first hand.
