Pawzler dog puzzle review

A new type of dog puzzle

Pawzler puzzle

Giving your dog a puzzle might seem like a silly idea at first. Why would dogs need puzzle games?

But at the same time, every dog owner has got a story about how their dog did something crazy out of boredom.

Giving your dog a game to play can be an easy way to cure your dog’s boredom and even tire your dog out mentally. Just 10 to 15 minutes thinking time for them can be like 2 hours of working time for us.

Pawzler, a new customisable puzzle game for dogs immediately peaked our interest. It’s lego style construction is a very interesting approach to dog puzzles.

The price and the quality

Currently for complete sets, you can either purchase one board (+components) for 29.90€ or two for 39.90€. We got the two board one to test it out fully.

You can also purchase the components separately, if you wish to keep things simple and small.

By comparison, Nina Ottosson puzzles, which are considered one of the best, are also priced somewhere between 20-40€, so the price is definitely in the same range - nothing too expensive or crazy cheap here.

As for the quality - it’s plastic… 🤔

Material-wise, it doesn’t feel like cheap plastic, but it’s still plastic.

Pawzler put it on the box as well, that you shouldn’t leave your dog alone with this toy, as plastic is very easy for dogs to chew through.

Compared to some Nina Ottosson toys, which have been made of wood, this feels more light-weight.

But apart from that, it’s still well constructed and all of the pieces work fine.

For us, one of the blue pieces’s connection parts got broken during transport, because the postal service has anger issues and can never deliver a package calmly.

But thankfully, Pawzler was very friendly and sent us a replacement. We are very happy with the support we received!

Another good thing that I think these puzzle pieces have, is the potential to create a lot of new and interesting options. New smaller puzzle pieces will definitely be cheaper to buy than whole new puzzles.

Mental stimulation or over exaggeration?

On the Pawzler website, they claim that they have “Endless challenges” and “Limitless possibilities” thanks to the toys movable parts, but is that true?

Well for us, we measure things by how long they last. We call it our WOM graph (Waste Of Money graph). If we’re going to buy something and it costs more and it doesn’t last as long as these items, then typically it’s going to feel like a waste of money.

wom graph

If you’re going to spend 30 bucks on a puzzle toy, then it should should be entertaining enough for at least 10-15 minutes at a time. If your dog just solves it in 20 seconds, then what was the point of spending all of that money, when you may as well just get some treats instead?

And a good toy should also last more than one day. Again, if your dog destroys it faster than a hungry man destroys a taco, then that’s 30 bucks down the drain.

Because our dog has solved some puzzles before, it seemed like this puzzle is too easy for her - she solved it under 2 minutes. She already knew how to spin and move sliders to get treats.

However, we saw that two pieces actually gave her a challenge. She didn’t know much about opening drawers and she couldn’t open the door piece, when it was facing the inside of the board.

Then, after we had rearranged the board and gave her exactly the parts she didn’t know, it took her over 10 minutes to get all of the treats! Thats good!

Should you get Pawzler?

While it’s not an “endless challenge” or full of “limitless possibilities” yet as they claim, it’s still pretty good!

If you’re looking for a beginner friendly puzzle, then Pawzler is a good start.

We even got to give our puzzle-veteran dog a good challenge. The puzzle works fine and the company was very helpful when things went a bit wrong with the shipping.

The customisability of the Puzzle is great for giving your dog a good challenge and great for you if you wish to purchase just one specific puzzle piece. And there’s potential to bring in more and more pieces in the future.

We’re definitely looking forward to where Pawzler goes from here, as we believe that they can bravely expand on their first design.

Just like with Legos, at first people only build small things, but as time goes on and the product evolves, bigger and more interesting result come forth.

The company was very friendly and we, and our dog, were left happy and satisfied.
